SHOULD YOU BE FOCUSING EFFORTS ON PINTEREST?

Should You Be Focusing Efforts On Pinterest?

Pinterest had its heyday around 2015 – 2018 and has gone through many changes since then. These changes have also changed Pinterest’s audience and how those users use the platform. When users change their behavior on a platform, so do advertisers and brands.

Even if Pinterest isn’t as big as it was, is it still worth the advertising effort? The short answer is “it depends.” It depends on your brand, audience, and ability to adapt your methods and delivery to different audiences.

What People Use Pinterest For

The good news is that people use Pinterest partially to discover content. They follow brands that they like and look at their Pins.

Many influencers will build their audience mostly via other platforms and set up a Pinterest for their audience to follow. This strategy will not be very different for brands and businesses. Pinterest shouldn’t be your main focus, but putting some effort into it may yield some rewards.

The Audience of Pinterest

Pinterest has a pretty tight-knit community nowadays. While they have their own sub-communities and different types of people within those communities, there is definitely a trend among them. This means that if you can understand the Pinterest user, you can understand at least a portion of the entire audience.

Take a look at some posts and some comments from regular users, watch how they talk, what they talk about, and what they follow, and you can get an idea of how much your brand will speak to them. Maybe it’ll be a perfect fit; maybe it won’t.

How to use Pinterest

Use Pinterest for short and sweet posts that get straight to the point. On top of this, keep things very fun and light-hearted. Some Pinterest users love long, deep-back stories, but we really suggest keeping those to a minimum.

You want to get straight to the point with your Pins. You also want to keep advertising to a minimum; remember, you want to build your brand with Pinterest.

How Not to Use Pinterest

The worst thing you can do on Pinterest is come off as an outsider. Remember, they’re tight-knit, so they won’t be very happy if they see a business come in and try to force products on them.

You want to study the Pinterest culture and see how they talk and use the platform. Maybe even pick up on a few of their memes or inside jokes. Just remember not to try too hard to copy them, or it will come off as disingenuous and really put them off from trying out your brand.

How Much Attention Should you Give Pinterest

Your brand depends on how much attention and effort you should put into Pinterest. For most brands, focusing effort on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and even Reddit is going to yield much better results.

This doesn’t mean you should ignore Pinterest outright, just that you should keep your expectations and effort realistic. Of course, if you find that Pinterest has the exact audience you’re looking for and that they’ll fall in love with your brand, then there are always exceptions to the rules, and you should focus a lot of energy there.
